Gold

There are 3 different karats of gold that are used for jewelry, 10k, 14k and 18k, each with different contents of gold and advantages.

Gold is manufactured in 3 different colors: yellow gold, white gold and rose gold. They all have the same percentage of gold for each karat (10k, 14k & 18k). The difference between the three colors is the content of the other metals thatare added to the pure gold.

  • Yellow gold: Gold, copper, silver, and zinc.
  • White gold:Gold, copper, nickel, palladium and zinc.
  • Rose gold:Gold and copper.

10k Gold

10k gold is made with 10 parts gold and 14 parts of other metals. These other metals can be copper, zinc, silver, nickel and palladium. 10k gold is 41.7% gold and 58.3 % other metals.

The advantages of 10k gold are the price and the durability. Pure gold (24k) is very soft and less durable. Since 10k gold has a low gold content it will hold up to scratches and everyday use a lot better than 18k gold.

14k Gold

14k gold is 14 parts gold and 10 parts of other metals. These other metals can be copper, zinc, silver, nickel and palladium. 14k gold is 58.3% gold and 41.7% other metals.

The advantages of 14k gold  are that it has a higher content of gold, the color has a warmer look compared to 10k. It is difficult to distinguish between 14k and 18k gold visually. Also, because the gold content is higher, there are less chances of developing allergic reactions. It is the perfect balance between 10k and 18k gold.

Therefore, 14k gold offers a high gold content and has a beautiful gold color. It is very durable and does not cause allergic reactions to the majority of people. 14k gold is also priced very well.

18k Gold

18k gold is 18 parts gold and 6 parts other metals. These other metals can be copper, zinc, silver, nickel and palladium. 18k is 75% gold and 25% other metals.

The advantage of 18k is that it has a warmer color than 14k gold. Due to having a higher gold content, 18k will not cause an allergic reaction. 18k is best used for jewelry that won’t be worn every day.

14k gold is the best of both worlds. You get a high gold content; it will have a beautiful gold color. It will be very durable and won’t cause allergic reactions in the majority people and is priced very well. --- can be deleted
