Platinum
Platinum is unlike the other precious metals when it comes to jewelry. Platinum jewelry is 95-98% pure platinum. In gold for example different metals are mixed with 24k ( pure gold ) to produce 10k , 14k ,18 jewelry.
Platinum is naturally white in color and also more dense than gold because of the density of platinum any jewelry made will require more of the metal. This will cause the jewelry to be heavier and stronger than its gold counterpart. Since platinum jewelry is 95-98% platinum you won't have any type of or allergic reactions , making platinum perfect for someone who wants a white look but can't use white gold because of the nickel content.
Platinum jewelry doesn't scratch in the same way gold jewelry does. when Platinum is used daily and it makes contact with other surfaces it will develop little bumps and ridges. This is called Platinum patina. Since platinum doesn't lose any of the metal when hit or scratched it can always be polished to look brand new. Some people prefer to keep the effects of everyday use as it will make the jewelry have a vintage look to it.
The pricing of platinum is higher than its gold counterpart, the reason is because platinum is more rare than gold; only 160 tons of platinum is mined yearly vs 1500 tons of gold. It also takes more platinum to make jewelry at the same carat weight because of the density of platinum.
